So, ever so quickly, here is some stolen text from the Janathon website, just so as you know.
Back in 2007, Joggerblogger aka [rich] of Ume Toys was at work one day in May when his colleague and good friend, Preston, said ‘Hmm, I’m getting to be a bit of a porker and I’m going on holiday soon. I need to get into shape. I know, I’m going to run every day in June.’
Joggerblogger liked this idea and said that yes, he too would also run every day in June and so Joggerblogger blogged about his idea which caught the attention of other bloggers who also wanted to join in and lo! Juneathon was born.
The first Juneathon inspired a handful of bloggers; 2008 saw a few more; Joggerblogger handed over the organising of Juneathon to Cathy at JogBlog in 2009 and she started keeping a list of participants (around 30 in total); 2010 saw Juneathon really taking off and we had 87 bloggers taking part.
After the success of Juneathon 2010, it was suggested by Sean at Audiofuel that we give Juneathon a colder baby brother and so, the first Janathon was launched in 2011, drawing in over 200 participants.
Now, both the ‘athons regularly have over 300 participants each.
So it’s a thing. This year I’m trying to do this, as I stopped running in September, after beating by 10k personal best, as I’d wrecked my hip flexor doing so, and spent a week hobbling round, then as I got better, never really bothered getting started again.
I also fancied trying out some silly apps and toys for my fitness. I’ll likely be blogging one day a week on this, but tweeting daily to keep up my obligations to the cause. A mix of suffering and app reviews basically. We’ll see as the month goes on.
Anyway. Day 1 was a bit of a lame one… post new year hang over etc etc… Just a mile walk…
Tomorrow I will do better! Or maybe just okay!
